Welcome to Newmarket Open Door

Building Hope. Creating Change.

Newmarket Open Door is a charity dedicated to helping young people and those in need find stability, confidence, and a fresh start.

Founded in 1997, we’ve grown into a trusted part of the community, providing homes, food, and pathways to independence.

We believe in people, in potential, and in the strength of community to make lasting change.

Supported Accommodation

At the core of Newmarket Open Door is our supported accommodation for young adults aged 18–24.

We offer not just a safe place to live, but a chance to rebuild. Many of the young people we support have faced instability and hardship; we help them find direction, confidence, and independence through one-to-one guidance, life skills, and opportunities for education and work.

Because everyone deserves a stable home, and the chance to thrive.

Charity Superstore

Our charity superstore is the beating heart of our fundraising. Every item bought, donated or sold directly supports our housing and community work.

It offers a sustainable and affordable shopping experience, while funding the support that changes lives. By donating or shopping with us, people aren’t just picking up a bargain; they’re investing in someone’s future.

Foodbank & Pop-Up Shop

Our Foodbank provides emergency food and essential supplies to individuals and families in crisis. Open three days a week, our Foodbank supports hundreds of local people through agency referrals and donations from the community.

Our Community Pop-Up Shop runs every Thursday and is open to everyone, no referral needed. For just £2, people can fill a bag with quality food and essentials. This service helps prevent crisis, reduces waste, and strengthens community connections.

Our Impact

Every year, Newmarket Open Door helps create real, measurable change in the lives of young people, families, and the wider community.

Changing Lives for Young Adults

  • Young adults who arrive with little stability gain safe housing, consistency, and support.

  • Many go on to independent living, maintaining their own tenancy successfully.

  • Residents develop core life skills, budgeting, cooking, employment readiness, that set them up for long-term success.

  • Young people build confidence and resilience, moving from crisis to control.

Strengthening Our Community

  • Our Foodbank and Community Pop-Up Shop support over 2,000 households every year, reducing food insecurity across the region.

  • Families in crisis receive immediate, practical help that eases pressure and restores stability.

  • Individuals facing hardship regain dignity and breathing space, often preventing problems from escalating.

Creating Better Futures

  • A growing number of young adults progress into education, apprenticeships, and employment with our support.

  • Access to essentials reduces stress, allowing families to focus on wellbeing, stability, and future goals.

  • Volunteers, partners, and supporters help extend our reach, creating a community safety net that catches people when they need it most.

Why It Matters

  • Every safe night gives a young person the chance to reset.

  • Every food parcel keeps a household going during a tough week.

  • Every small milestone a job interview, a new skill, a first home, is a step toward long-term independence.

  • Every person we support moves closer to a future they may not have believed possible.
